Sean and Stefen welcome Kevin Kurz to discuss the start to the Islanders season and preview what’s to come versus the Flyers this week.
2:30 – Sean and Stefen discuss the Islanders western Canada road trip, and how the same problems seem to follow this Isles team around. They got leads and blew leads, over and over again. Even though they haven’t played well, their season is far from over.
5:30 – Sean brings up the struggles of the Islanders penalty kill (it’s 8 for its last 16) and asks Stefen how much of an indicator the win over the Flames is for future games.
8:00 – The penalty kill has been one of if not the league’s worst. It seems as if every penalty the Islanders take ends up in the back of their net, especially in the 3rd period.
“I think he needed a heroic moment, just for himself. You have the extended shootout last night, he gets the winner, … you see the emotion, you see the celebration. He’s still trying to prove to himself – let alone the staff, let alone us – if he’s going to be that guy… he needed that shootout goal.”

14:30 – One the flip side of the special teams coin is the power play, which seems to have figured it out. Stefen discusses how Dobson has been the key to the new look power play. The team put their confidence in him, and he has responded.
17:30 – Stefen talks about Holmstrom’s look on the first line. In his past 5 games, he only has 5 shots. Even though he’s looking off to Barzal and Horvat, he has shown flashes of offensive potential that is starting to come through.
20:30 – Sean and Stefen discuss if Lane Lambert will be fired after the road trip. Sean thinks that if an interim coach is given the rest of the season, the Islanders will be reassessing everything this summer, including Lou. If the owners allow Lou to bring in a veteran coach, it’s a sign that he’ll continue to have the reigns.
30:00 – What’s on Tap!
The Islanders face the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday and Saturday. In between that, the Isles travel to Ottawa to face the Senators on Friday.
