The Islanders seesaw season continues to bob up and down, and right now, it’s on the upswing. After winning four of their last five, the Isles are somehow back in a playoff spot with only six games remaining. Rachel Doerrie of ESPN joined Sean & Stefen to figure out how they got here and if they can close out the season to reach the finish line in playoff position!
3:00 – Sean and Stefen break down the last week of Islanders play. The Islanders won their last three, taking down the Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks, and Columbus Blue Jackets. Against the Flyers, the Islanders allowed the Flyers to steal a point with less than ten seconds left in the game, but won it in overtime. The Islanders then faced two of the worst teams in the league, taking care of the Blackhawks and Blue Jackets, although not as convincingly as they took down the San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks. At this point in the season, two points is two points, and although the Isles haven’t looked their complete best, they have played well enough to win games.
“In a game like that, everything’s working but the puck’s not going in. They ran into a hot goalie, but they didn’t change anything. I think that’s the great thing about Roy is one – he’s not scared to change it when he thinks he has to change it, but also he trusts the players… He said that they needed to win this game and he trusted that his guys would come through.”
