Veteran New York hockey reporter and Isles authority brings decades of beat experience, storytelling, and fan-first insight to HNiNY.
Long Island, NY — September 26, 2025 — Hockey Night in New York today announced that acclaimed New York hockey journalist Arthur Staple has joined the show as co-host. Staple is best known for his years covering the Islanders at Newsday and his New York hockey reporting at The Athletic, along with his 2021 book 100 Things Islanders Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die.
“Arthur has told this team’s story through multiple eras and understands the heartbeat of Islanders fans,” said Sean Cuthbert, host of Hockey Night in New York. “He brings credibility, access, and a feel for the room that fits our show perfectly.”
Staple covered the Islanders beat for Newsday before joining The Athletic to cover New York hockey, including both the Islanders and Rangers. He announced his departure from The Athletic in June 2025.
“I’m excited to team up with Hockey Night in New York,” said Arthur Staple. “This show blends smart analysis with the kind of conversation Islanders fans have been having with me for years. I can’t wait to dig in.”
Hockey Night in New York airs live Sundays at 8pm ET on YouTube and podcast platforms, breaking down games and the moves that shape the team’s future, connecting coverage, context, and conversation with the Islanders fan base.
