On Saturday, September 2nd, Hockey Night in New York will be in attendance for the 2023 Runner’s Edge Main Street Mile in Farmingdale, NY.
HNiNY is involved in all the action, a common trend as both co-host Sean Cuthbert and former co-host Christian Arnold participated in the mile run last year. This year, HNiNY is back on-site with Islanders legend Pat LaFontaine, as Sean and Stefen will don their running gear for a great cause.
LaFontaine, a Hockey Hall of Famer, has 1013 points in 865 games with the Islanders, Sabres and Rangers. His 1.17 points per game are the most for any American-born player ever. The 3rd overall pick by the Islanders in the 1983 NHL Draft lived up to all the hype, as he sits top-five in Islanders history in goals, hat-tricks and points per game.
“One of LaFontaine’s biggest achievements arguably came off the ice, though, as he founded Companions in Courage.”
– Ava Salti
One of LaFontaine’s biggest achievements arguably came off the ice, though, as he founded Companions in Courage, a charity that connects hospitalized children to their family, friends and heroes. Companions in Courage builds interactive playrooms in hospitals all over the country, supplying them with computers, televisions and video game consoles.
LaFontaine will be at the Races on September 2nd, greeting and cheering on all runners and fans. HNiNY will have the “Easter Epic” game-winning goal-scorer on the mic to answer all sorts of questions, and get his take on such a meaningful and wonderful event.
There are three separate races: the Kid’s Fun Run at 8:30 a.m., the Women’s Mile at 9:15 a.m., and the Men’s Mile at 9:40 a.m. Following the races to benefit Companions in Courage, there is a special party at The Tap Room (206 Main St., Farmingdale, NY 11735), with drinks, a buffet, and all kinds of raffles.
HNiNY will be there and we are hoping to see many Islanders fans there, too!
